Welcome to Wellesley Park School! We're so excited that your child will be joining us in September. On this page you will find lots of information about starting school with us. If you would like a copy of any of our letters, you can find them at the bottom of the page.
We know that starting school is a big milestone for children and that many parents feel anxious about if their child is ready. We've created this handy leaflet about school readiness, which to us at Wellesley Park, isn't about knowing your letters or numbers, but rather about social and practical skills. If you have any concerns or questions, please do get in touch.
We have been holding 'Welcome to Wellesley Park School' meetings at school to give parents a chance to come into the environment and to have an introduction to the school. Below you will find a version of the presentation that we give during the meeting. The alternate pages show the detail that staff would have given verbally. If you would like any more information or you have any questions, please do contact us at school.
Below you can find the Early Learning Goals, or ELGs, that help staff make end of year judgements in Reception. These are not a curriculum as such but rather support staff to make best-fit judgements about a child's development and readiness for Year 1.
In Reception, we have an initial curriculum map that helps us to ensure that we are providing the children with a broad curriculum that allows them to explore and make progress across the year. During the year, staff may notice that children have an interest in a particular topic or current events may influence what is going on in the classroom and so, in this way, topics may change. In this way, we can engage children in their learning and develop their knowledge and skills in contexts that they enjoy.
